Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Tennessee Rye Whiskey

This review is based on a four-ounce pour in a Glen Caron glass with two frozen medicinal stainless steel balls, medical grade. Poured this, let it sit 15 minutes, went to it multiple times to experience the scent in the glass. It is unlike any rye I have ever smelled. I can't even. Cherry leather. Can't compare to anything. Medicinal cherry flavored shoelace. Digging in deep on the nose. Deep inhale. Maybe brown sugar, but it's not pleasant. It smells like glue. It smells like I'm sniffing glue. Paint thinner, I must drink a lot of water with this one. Oh dear god, this is clearly an experiment. Drinking water now. Heavy Marzipan this was rye where they were like, oh, we gotta get rid of this. Let's quickly make a mash bill. hiccuping... I have never smelled anything like this before. I can't even say that I smell oak. Heavy deep sniffs, I smell oak.It that's it Oak Rye, light cherry, marzipan, and we're done. I don't want to drink the rest of this, but it's Halloween. It's not sweet. It's oaky medicinal, too high of a proof even at 47% Adding water now..... 25 oz... Cola... I can't I can't like this. I don't like it I'm gonna I'm gonna finish this because I poured it But I don't like it and I'm leaving this bottle probably forever at three quarters full. This is so unique of an expression that I can't wrap my head around it. It doesn't taste like rye. It tastes like a spiced bourbon. And they messed up on it and were trying to make some money off of it Probably because the barrels were somewhere in the rickhouse where they were like we forgot about these ones, well make a special release.

Stellum Black Fibonacci Rye Whiskey

Stellum has a well-earned reputation for excellence, and this Black Fibonacci Rye is exactly why. It's fantastic. Such a smooth, delicious blend of vanilla/apple sweetness with a nice rye spice. It drinks a little hot, but nothing too strong. I'm wishing I'd bought two.

I had tried this at a friend’s house and fell in love with it immediately. The spicy Rye flavors together with the oak makes for a tasty drink. Excellent with one large ice cube. It is at a price point similar to other premium Straight Rye Whiskeys.

George Dickel Rye Whisky

Regardless of price point, this is a phenomenal rye. But when the price is considered, it is an exceptional rye. This is smooth, with a nice level of sweetness. I'm usually a fan of no. 5 char, but with the 2/4 char combo, it really imparts a nice oak flavor. The finish is my favorite - cherries, caramel, cinnamon flavors that linger. Add this to your favorites.

BHAKTA 1928 Rye Whiskey

Now I’m not very attuned to everything that is whiskey. However, I found this blend to be a wonderful way to get into the whiskey world, and at the right price. I can taste vanilla for sure, and maybe a hint of caramel with an oak finish. It was pretty smooth but it’ll warm you up in a nice way. I would definitely recommend it to someone getting into whiskey and I can’t imagine any seasoned whiskey drinkers would have to many bad things to say.

For Rye lovers, this is just a must have in the collection. It has a great rye spice and a lovely oak layer. Great proof point. I creamy feel if its cold enough, ie; in an Old Fashioned.

I typically don't prefer ryes but all the flavors here, maple, sweet, and still a bit hot(in the chest) ...loving it!

Laws San Luis Valley Straight Rye Whiskey

This is the first Rye I got and I am in love. I drink it as a digestif after meal. It has a lot of flavor hiding under every sip. Vanilla, coconut, dates, orange, banana, cloves and cardamom. A reasonably priced and a great looking bottle from an independent whisky maker, can’t go wrong. The proof is just right and it drinks very smooth (flavorful but not rough). The color and viscosity of the whisky is also perfect.

Wasn’t sure what to expect but I bought it because of previous reviews about a floral nose. Spot on floral, almost tropical nose with touch of honeysuckle.

Deep amber and rich color in the glass. Lots of mouth covering velvety lingering juice. Notes of butterscotch, ripe fruit, pops of menthol/mint and spice. Great finish that’s is elegant and keeps on giving. I’d say buy , but then you might get the last bottle front running me so don’t buy lol.

I wondered if the whole “Empire rye” thing was just a branding exercise but nope. Mashbill of 95% heirloom rye, this stuff is the real deal. Spicy, chewy, minty, super deep and flavorful. You’ve likely never had a rye that tastes quite like this one. Highly recommended!

Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye Whisky

Wow, this is a phenomenal Canadian rye!

While it is cask strength, I did not feel it was as overwhelming as other cask strength spirits I have tried. The nose is spicy yet light. Canadian ryes are definitely different than US ryes. I have enjoyed sipping it neat and plan to try it in a Manhattan and several other cocktails. Take off to the Great White North with this rye!

Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye Whisky

Mine came bottled at 66% alcohol and holy cow, it's intense. After sipping it neat I added a couple of drops of water and the flavors opened up even more. If you like it spicy, get your hands on a bottle of this while you can.

High West Yippee Ki-Yay

This is an awesome rye. One of the best I’ve had. We paid substantially less than current price but, it’s definitely a $250+ bottle.

The Best Rye I've Tasted Since Sazerac

I'm sorry that Tallyfins had a bad experience — maybe they did get a bad batch — but I more than love this rye. I got it as a Christmas present last year (Christmas 2020), and couldn't stop raving about it. It's a great deal more subtle and complex than any other rye I've ever had, excepting maybe only Sazerac: it reminds me somewhat of a Scotch or a good Bourbon, the peppery and spicey notes certainly there but with less of an edge of straight heat than many other ryes have and just a sneaky bit of caramel or honey, and just miles more well-balanced and smooth-drinking than any other rye I've ever tried (again, excepting maybe only Sazerac). I genuinely think ryes like this one are the future of American rye whiskey.

I have been trying to get my hands on this one for awhile now. It did not disappoint. The markup definitely leaves a lot to be desired, but I would definitely buy again because it is an exceptional bourbon. I don’t really care for High West’s other bottles, but this one ranks in my top 5.

I've had it neat and in a cocktail and there is something off with the taste of this. I would not recommend. I can't put my finger on it but something is off. Maybe a bad run? Either way I won't be buying this again

Nice to have a way to try three expressions. I bought this for an online class. The Rye is really smooth for being a 100% Rye, also an amazing floral aroma. I was expecting more heat but it was really tame and enjoyable by itself and I have used it for some great cocktails as well. The Bourbon is not like any other Bourbon I have tried. Very smooth again and it is a higher proof Bourbon than I am used to drinking. Very tasty and a toasted candied almonds flavor is lasted really long. The Four Grain is really complex and a bit more in the direction of a malt whiskey, I would use this for sipping for sure.

Amazing mellow yet robust rye

The Magellan Atlantic version of Whistle Pig Boss Hogg is simply amazing. It remains a robust rye while providing a mellow taste that is not overwhelming. it is sweet yet you still know you are drinking whiskey. The tasting notes are all there but the bottom line is it is a wonderful pour. I am a big rye old fashioned fan. However, I would not mix this with anything else. Neat is just marvelous. I highly recommend this to rye lovers who want something that is smooth with just the right bite.

I've tried the Noble Oak bourbon as well (and love it), but I actually prefer their rye here overall. The flavor is a bit more layered, and the finish is more pronounced. interesting contrast between the port oak influence in the Noble Oak Rye and the sherry oak influence in their bourbon.

Awesome velvet entry. The fire starts as soon as you swallow leaving a nice subtle taste waiting for the next sip. There is something with that Hungarian oak. Good luck finding it.

This is my favorite rye. It soars above my bourbon picks, too. It's smooth and fragrant, offering consolation on the most bleak days. For awhile, this year and blend was hard to find. So I'm grateful that it's available here.

Rock & Rye is a simple drink. As the previous reviewer states, it's an old fashioned in a bottle. I like this because now I don't have to use pricy whiskey to make an old fashioned. When the craving for an old fashioned takes hold I grab a rocks glass, add ice and top with Rock & Rye!

I purchased this locally, and the price wasn't as high, but I'd be happy to spend this much. A delicious whiskey with a subtle sweet note that tacks on to a nice woody flavor. I'm headed out to buy two more bottles now before the limited run is over. It's great stuff!

Everything as described above. Surprising clean and tight. Lingers but not excessively so. Invites a second sip quickly. This is a popular go to primarily for men in West Texas after dinner.

Wow, individual notes are abundant, distinct, and plentiful. Quality of Double Rye "buzz" absolute serenity.
Finally, for the price I paid in southeast Wisconsin, the "value" is impossible to surpass.

Tap 8 Sherry Finished 8 Year Old Rye Whisky

I really wanted this to be better than is was. I was hoping the sherry finish would add an extra special dimension to rye whisky but it didn't work for me. I really enjoy scotch that has been sherried but it's just not the same with rye. IMO, it is a bit over priced. I'll stick to plain rye whisky from now on.

Old fashioned in a bottle

If you're even in the mood for an old fashioned, but you're too lazy for all the requisite muddling, you could do a lot worse than Slow & Low. It's a bit too sweet for my tastes, but this can be balanced out by a dash of bitters. I also find that it's most enjoyable chilled (not ice cold). The citrus comes through loud & clear and is the highlight of this cocktail in a bottle.
