About Uncle Nearest 1820 11 Year Old Premium Whiskey
Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey is inspired by one of the best whiskey makers the world never knew, the first African-American master distiller on record in the United States, Nathan "Nearest" Green. A slave until Emancipation and the end of the Civil War, Green was likely the one who taught Jack Daniel how to distill.
Owned entirely by Uncle Nearest, Inc., The Uncle Nearest line includes a Premium Aged blend of 8-10YO, and 11YO Barrel Proof Single Barrel, and debuting at Tales of the Cocktail: a Small Batch whiskey hand-selected by the founders of Uncle Nearest with a blend curated by descendants of Nearest Green. Every expression is distilled, aged, bottled, and hand-labeled in Tennessee.
Only 1% of their whiskey barrels get selected for their single-barrel releases. Uncle Nearest 1820 is aged at least 11 years in new charred oak and the cask strength needs to be above 108 proof. Each barrel is hand-picked by the founders and is then approved by a panel of industry professionals, making it a truly exceptional expression that has garnered numerous awards.

About American Whiskey
There are two main representatives of the American whiskey family, bourbon, and rye, but some other spirits don't fall into those two strictly regulated categories.
There's equally strictly regulated American single malt, made from 100% malted barley, Tennessee whiskey, essentially bourbon filtered through maple charcoal and aged in new charred oak barrels.
And then there's moonshine, a high proof (150- 170 proof) distilled spirit mainly made out of corn which gained popularity during the prohibition.
