About Jimmy Red Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Jimmy Red corn is a unique variety of corn that was once popular with bootleggers and farmers alike. Named for James Island and its unique color, the heirloom grain came near extinction with only 2 cobs remaining. At that point, it was rescued by Ted Chewning. Shortly after High Wire Distilling opened its doors, they managed to get their hands on enough seeds to grow 2.5 acres of Jimmy Red corn with the help of Dr. Brian Ward from Clemson University. As the fields kept growing, so did their output of unique bourbon. Jimmy Red Straight Bourbon is High Wire's flagship product ― a unique spirit that's distilled from 100% Jimmy Red corn. After being distilled on the grain, the whiskey spends at least 2 years in American oak casks (char 3.5) before being bottled at 95 proof.

Tasting Notes

The nose is sweet with honey and baking spice aromas. The palate is creamy, sweet, and nutty with a pleasant sweetness, baking spices, graham crackers, and vanilla, leading to a gently warming finish.
