The Story

About Whitley Neill Quince Handcrafted Gin

The 100% grain spirit is distilled in an antique century-old copper pot still named Constance using exceptionally pure water and a careful balance of 9 quality botanicals. Juniper, coriander seed, cassia bark, orris root, angelica root, licorice, sweet orange, lemon, and Turkish quince make up the Whitley Neill Quince Gin expression. It's fruity and juniper-forward with quince in the spotlight. After distillation, the spirit is sweetened and the quince is added. The gin is inspired by Frederick Neill's visit to Persia at the turn of the century, where he came upon various exotic fruits and spices that would eventually find their way into the family's gin recipes.

About Whitley Neill

Johnny Neill comes from a family with a rich tradition in distilling. As a child, he came upon a box of gin bottles in his grandmother's house and wanted to learn more about the liquid that his family had been making since 1762. He learned about the impact various botanicals have on spirits and was instantly drawn to spirit-making. He set out to create a gin that would honor the tradition and passion of his family, with an exotic and modern twist. To that end, he added the baobab fruit and South African Cape gooseberry, which added a South African dimension to the spirit.

About Gin

According to Winston Churchill, "The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives and minds than all the doctors in the Empire," referring to the British officers using it to treat malaria in India.

Initially made for medicinal purposes, gin gets most of its flavor from the juniper berries added after the distillation process. It sure has come a long way from the Middle Ages, with the introduction of new botanicals, fruits, and spices, bringing it closer to people of all flavor varieties.

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with fresh stone fruits and pear, then continues with juniper and citrus notes. Quince takes the spotlight on the palate along with a prominent sweetness and fruity notes of peaches and apricots. Finishes equally fruity and floral.
