About Westward Cask Strength American Single Malt Whiskey

Westward Stout Cask American Single Malt Whiskey is an outstanding single malt that celebrates Westward’s way of whiskey-making as well as Oregon's legendary brewing culture. The Westward distillery puts a big focus on brewing: the distillation of their single malts starts off by brewing an artisanal American Ale from scratch, using locally malted barley, ale yeast, and slow, low-temperature fermentation. Some of the freshly-emptied casks of the ale are then traded with some of their brewing collaborators who, in turn, refill the barrels with Stout. The nicely seasoned barrels are then returned to Westward Distillery where they become the crucial step in making the deliciously sweet Westward Stout Cask Finish Single Malt. The Westward original is aged in the Stout barrels for one year before being bottled at an ABV of 46%. This is a rich and full single malt, best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.

About Westward Whiskey

Born in the Northwest, Westward Whiskey was founded in 2004 by former brewer and winemaker Christian Krogstad who had a vision to bring American Single Malt, inspired by the distinctive culture, climate, and natural ingredients that come together in the Northwest, to the people. It's worth noting that at the time, there were no more than about three dozen craft distilleries in the U.S. Today, Westward Whiskey is lead by Christian and Thomas Mooney who joined the team in 2011. The distillery is a proud leader among more than 2,200 producers, bringing bold, robust and delicious American Single Malt to the world.

Westward strives for perfection through Minimalist Distilling, a philosophy pioneered by their founders that begins by selection the highest quality ingredients. Their purposefully inefficient production process brings out the flavor of the grain and other natural ingredients. Every step is meant to express flavor; never to strip away or mask impurities.

About American Whiskey

There are two main representatives of the American whiskey family, bourbon, and rye, but some other spirits don't fall into those two strictly regulated categories.

There's equally strictly regulated American single malt, made from 100% malted barley, Tennessee whiskey, essentially bourbon filtered through maple charcoal and aged in new charred oak barrels.

And then there's moonshine, a high proof (150- 170 proof) distilled spirit mainly made out of corn which gained popularity during the prohibition.
