About Starward Whisky Gift Pack

Starward Whisky is an Australian brand of craft whisky that was founded in 2007 by David Vitale, a Melburnian who grew up in a big Italian family. Due to his upbringing, Vitale always knew how to appreciate good food and his mission is to make whisky for “a curious, food-obsessed generation”. With a focus on the flavors, Starward is handcrafted in the bedrock of southeastern Australia's wine scene where Vitale helped kickstart the Australian single malt movement under the tutelage of whisky godfather Bill Lark himself.

All of the ingredients for Starward Whisky are sourced from a day’s drive away and the varied Melbourne weather is a key component in the production process, leaving its mark on the distinctively fruity and delicious whisky. This gift pack contains their 3 award-winning core expressions: The Nova, Two-Fold Single Malt, and Solera Single Malt. Each of these comes in a 200 mL bottle.

Distilled at their facility in Melbourne, Starward Nova is a unique single malt, shaped by the hot climate and legendary red wines of Australia. For this whisky, Australian red wine barrels have been meticulously, locally, hand-selected. A collection of uncharred Shiraz, Cabernet, and Pinot casks were chosen, kept exactly as they were when they left the winery. This preserves both the character of wine and oak which impart a wonderfully complex character onto the spirit.

Two-Fold is a double grain whisky that is entirely matured in their signature Australian red wine barrels. A union of Australia’s two most quintessential grains; wheat and malted barley, coming together to create a flavor-forward whisky that is filled with rich complexities driven by the power of two grains.

Starward Solera Single Malt Whisky is a double distilled single malt whisky that's matured for at least 3 years in Apera casks from the McWilliams Winery that have been shaved and re-charred. Apera is an Australian fortified wine, similar to sherry. The casks are blended Solera style, which means a “drop of the original cask” makes its way to every bottle. The result is a rich and well-balanced whisky with flavors of jammy fruits, crème brûlée, and some spice.

Tasting Notes

Nova: Aromas of fresh raspberry and cinnamon spice mingle in the nose, giving way to more of the same on the tongue. A lengthy finish reveals more characteristics of those viticultural precursors: berry tartness, slight tannic astringency.

Two-Fold: The nose is filled with spiced vanilla and fresh tropical fruit. Whilst the palate is flowing with hints of Fuji apples, roasted pineapple, lightly toasted oak, and a soft tannic finish.

Solera: The nose is light and fruity with dried orchard fruits, malt, honey, and vanilla. The palate is sweet and complex with flavors of jammy fruits, vanilla, dried fruit, crème brûlée and some spice. The finish is long and dry with malty and fruity notes.
