About Gold Spot 9 Year Old 135th Anniversary Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

The Dublin whiskey scene is one vibrant and colorful cookie. The Mitchell family is a proud part of that, boasting a history that goes back over 135 years and thrives as a 7th generation whiskey-bonding family business. The Mitchells are attributed with a unique labeling system, which consists of different color spots of paint on their barrels, indicating the age and the type of whiskey. And so the Spot family was born. To celebrate all those years of hard work and success, the Mitchells have decided to release Gold Spot 9 Year Old 135th Anniversary Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey—a celebratory expression that spent nine years maturing in a medley of bourbon barrels, Bordeaux wine casks, Port pipes, and sherry butts. The inclusion of port barrels obtained from Portugal partners’ Douro Valley represents a first in the Spot family and is, therefore, a modern take on this classic spirit. Bottled at a solid 51.4% ABV, this celebratory expression gives a smooth mouthfeel of a loving fruit mix, cloves, and peppercorn, followed by sweet spices, vanilla and cinnamon flavors. Excellent to drink neat, always to be enjoyed with friends.

About Spot Whiskeys

In 1805, the Mitchell & Sons Wine Merchants Company was established in the heart of Dublin, Ireland. By the turn of the 19th century, the Mitchells sold a range of Irish whiskeys under the name "Spot." This name originated from the company's practice of marking casks of different ages with a spot of colored paint. As a result, Mitchell & Sons sold whiskeys named Blue Spot, Green Spot, Red Spot and finally Yellow Spot, which was last seen in the mid-to-late 1960s.

About Irish Whiskey

Contrary to popular belief that Scots invented whisk(e)y, Irish whiskey was mentioned almost a century before its Scottish brother.

Its origin comes from the perfume distilling monks who decided to tweak the recipe a bit, creating Irish whiskey.

Irish whiskey doesn’t have a lot of rules and regulations to be considered “pure” and can be made with various grains and processes, as long as it is aged for at least three years in wooden casks and has a max ABV of 94.8%.
