About Doc Swinson's Exploratory Cask Garryana Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Exploratory Cask Garryana Straight Bourbon Whiskey shares its base with all Doc Swinson's expressions ― a blend of 2 MGP mash bills that's known as Doc Swinson's Blender's Cut. The first component consists of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley, while the second is distilled from 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley. After spending 5 years and 10 months in American oak casks, the whiskey was finished in garryana oak casks. Garryana oak (commonly known as Oregon oak) is plentiful in the Pacific Northwest, including the backyard of Doc Swinson's aging warehouse. Harder to cooper, garryana casks transform cinnamon and caramel notes into clove and molasses, making for a unique bourbon that's bottled at 108.8 proof.

Tasting Notes

The nose is pleasantly smoky and sweet with BBQ and plum aromas. On the palate, you'll find molasses, black tea, fruit, clove, and a touch of leather. The finish is long with lingering chocolate and fruit notes.
