About Dewar's 19 Year Old The Champions Edition 2023 US Open Blended Scotch Whisky

Dewar's has been the official blended Scotch whisky of the U.S. Open Championship golf tournament for 3 years in a row. The 2023 edition is crafted by Master Blender Stephanie Macleod from Scottish malted barley with the help of pure water from the Pitilie Burn, a small river that runs by the distillery. After fermentation, the liquid is distilled using tall pot stills at Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery. The Aberfeldy single malt that is produced there remains the heart of Dewar's blend today. The 2023 edition is released in partnership with the 123rd US Open Championship. It's a blend of 40 grain and single malt whiskies that was matured for 19 years and finished in American oak casks that used to hold red wine from Napa Valley. "These impart deep berry notes on the whisky. It marks the first non-fortified wine cask-finished whisky that we have created for DEWAR'S," says Macleod.

About Dewar's

Dewar's was founded in 1846 when John Dewar began blending the finest whisky he could source in Scotland and bottling it with his own name on the label. By the turn of the century, the brand had expanded to become one of the best-selling whiskies in the world and today remains the best-selling Scotch whisky in the United States.

About Scotch

Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.

Look for deep berry aromas on the rich palate with a touch of honey. The palate is complex with black cherry, berry, toffee, and a hint of vanilla, leading to a long and fruity finish with a touch of nutmeg.
