About Blackened x Wes Henderson Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Blackened American Whiskey is a collaboration between Metallica and the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell. The project involves a proprietary finishing process called Black Noise, where each batch of whiskey is sonically treated with a custom Metallica playlist, the vibrations enabling the whiskey to penetrate deeper into the casks. This expression is the second in the Masters of Whiskey Series which had Master Distiller and Blender Rob Dietrich collaborate with Angel's Envy Co-Founder Wes Henderson. It's a 6-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon that was finished in white port wine casks and bottled without chill-filtration at a cask strength of 116.2 proof.

About Blackened

Both masters in their respective fields, Metallica, the heavy metal band, and the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, considered the founding father of craft distilling, joined forces and presented to the world Blackened whiskey. Sharing their creative fire, they crafted an unconventional whiskey, made with a process like no other. Dave Pickerell was interested in how sound could affect substances on a molecular level.

They teamed up with Metallica and their long-time collaborators ― the innovating sound-engineering wizards Meyer Sound ― to create a special subwoofer that would transfer vibrations efficiently through the casks. They dubbed this proprietary process Black Noise, trademarked it, then proceeded to play tracks by Metallica ― chosen specifically for each batch by the band themselves ― to the whiskey.

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with pear, raisin, baking spice, and tobacco aromas. The palate is gently sweet and fruity with pear, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, hay, and hints of nuts, leading to a long finish.
