Blackened American Whiskey
Born in cask. Forged by sound. A marriage of the finest bourbons, ryes & whiskeys, hand selected by Dave Pickerell himself, infused with the unmistakable music of Metallica.
Metallica is one of the most iconic metal rock bands in history, the group was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, California by drummer Lars Ulrich and vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield. The group paired with the late Dave Pickerell, a whiskey luminary and one of the nation's most incredible master distillers to create their music infused whiskey. Pickerell was previously the Master Distiller at Maker's Mark and Head Distiller at the WhistlePig estate. Blackened whiskey is a marriage of the finest bourbons, ryes & whiskeys, hand selected by Dave himself. Each of the whiskeys offer unique flavor that play a key role in the final spirit. Predominately bourbon, the sweetness of BLACKENED pairs perfectly with the savory spice offered by the high rye composition. This unique whiskey goes through several steps during the production process. Pickerell, who is famed for his whiskey finishing touch, a process he often called “flavoring for adults,” finishes the whiskey in black brandy casks during secondary maturation. This results in an added apricot note that plays perfectly alongside the honey and caramel tones of the pre-finished spirit. The distinctive part of the finishing process is a sonic-enhancement method that utilizes sound wave frequency to infuse the spirit as it ages. After the whiskeys have been married in the black brandy casks for finishing, they’re infused by the music of Metallica. This proprietary sonic-enhancement system Black Noise, pummels the whiskey with sound, causing increased movement of the liquid and wood interaction, which kicks up the wood-flavor characteristics in the whiskey. “From the time Dave Pickerell was a cadet at West Point, he was fascinated with the effects of sound—the way an organ can play a note that shakes an entire building. As he honed his craft over the years, the thought of what sound could do to whiskey at a molecular level stayed with him” (producer). A subwoofer was created by Metallica and Meyer Sound to harness the vibrations that make a Metallica concert the resonant, visceral experience their fans know and love. The result? Blackened, a whiskey with an incredible amount of character from the barrel. You can expect aromas of vanilla and caramel, followed by enhanced flavors of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and incredible apricot overtones.
