Everyone holds their own traditions when it comes to New Year’s — some scribble up a myriad of resolutions, some sport a snazzy pair of red underwear, and some prepare special meals that are believed to bring some fortuity in their future endeavors. And then, you have the team over at the Barrel Bourbon, who assemble every autumn to pull together a complex blend of bourbons. Their jovial assembly of aromas celebrates the creativity of their blending process and serves as an enthusiastic salute for all that’s to come. The 2023 batch features a careful selection of 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10-year-old straight Bourbon Whiskeys from 8 different U.S. States — Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Wyoming, New York, Texas, and Maryland. This unbelievably wide mix of blends was aged in American white oak barrels and then crafted and bottled in Kentucky at 113.54 proof.

About Barrell Craft Spirits

"I started this company to share my passion for unique, high-quality spirits," says Joe Beatrice, founder of the independent bottler Barrell Craft Spirits, whose self-proclaimed goal is to find and curate the best barrels and batches of whiskey and rum, wherever they may be. To preserve the singular characteristics of each batch, Barrell bottles all their whiskeys at cask strength. "The complexity and concentration of flavor is greatest when the whiskey comes right from the barrel," says Beatrice.

With each batch being a limited release, their goal is to "explore different distillation methods, barrels, and aging environments". Their releases have garnered several of the most prestigious awards and won the hearts of bourbon lovers across the globe with whiskey authority Fred Minnick naming it Best American Whiskey of 2018.

Tasting Notes

Brioche and caramel aromas greet the nose, underpinned by the wooden notes of sandalwood and smoke. The palate offers a balance of heat and syrupy oak sugars, with vanilla, oak spices, nutmeg, cardamom, and aniseed flavors in the front. The finish is creamy and features a slow fade of chocolate and cashews.
