About The Glenturret Peat Smoked 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

As the oldest distillery in Scotland (in their words, although there are more than one distilleries in Scotland that are claiming this title), the Glenturret has a rich history with peat - records show that The Glenturret dug peat from the mosses at their water source at the Octhertye Estate for whisky production as early as in the 1800s. Peaty whiskies have been featured heavily throughout the history of the Glenturret, with the distillery constantly using various sources of peat to produce the best peated single malts possible. The Glenturret is celebrating its peat-rich history with the Peat Smoked 10 Year Old Single Malt, a marvelous whisky that is full of depth and not-too-overwhelming smokiness. Peat smoked 10YO is matured both in first-fill and second-fill European and American oak casks and bottled non-chill filtered at a powerful ABV of 50%. Have this mellow, sweet, and smoky single malt neat or with a splash of water that will open up new dimensions of flavor.

About Scotch

Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.

The nose is influenced heavily by the bourbon barrels, providing notes of ripe bananas, green grapes, vanilla, and butterscotch. The mouthful is slightly creamy with notes of ginger, white pepper, oak, limoncello, plums, and campfire smoke. The finish is long and offers more smokiness.
