About Smooth Ambler Old Scout American Whiskey

Embedded in the rolling Appalachian hills of Greenbrier County, West Virginia, Smooth Ambler Spirits is a testament to the hard-work and craftsmanship of TAG Galyean and John Little. Working in their state-of-the-art, 5,200 square foot distillery, Galyean and Little combine innovative techniques with locally-sourced grains and a hands-on distillation process to produce remarkable spirits that are bold, complex and perfectly balanced.

Old Scout American Whiskey is a blend of two whiskeys distilled from bourbon mash bills. One 9+ YO 36% rye bourbon whiskey aged in new oak barrels, and a 5+ YO whiskey distilled from a bourbon mash and aged in re-charred “rejuvenated barrels”. This bourbon-like whiskey is blended in limited, hand selected batches and without chill filtration. This Old Scout Whiskey earned 86 points at the 2017 Ultimate Spirits Challenge, and 91 points at the 2018 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

About American Whiskey

There are two main representatives of the American whiskey family, bourbon, and rye, but some other spirits don't fall into those two strictly regulated categories.

There's equally strictly regulated American single malt, made from 100% malted barley, Tennessee whiskey, essentially bourbon filtered through maple charcoal and aged in new charred oak barrels.

And then there's moonshine, a high proof (150- 170 proof) distilled spirit mainly made out of corn which gained popularity during the prohibition.

Tasting Notes

Sweet, baking spice, cake icing, toasted graham cracker on the nose. Toasted wood and creamy corn, a hint of mint, and front of the mouth flavor on the palate.
