Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was a Criollo Catholic priest and leader of the Mexican War of Independence. The Father of the Nation suffered a gruesome death in 1811, being executed and decapitated, his head hung on exhibition. The Squadron of Death (Peloton de la Muerte) sought revenge for his death, flying "The Doliente Hidalgo", a banner that represented the army. The same banner adorns the bottles of Peloton de la Muerte Mezcal, which takes its inspiration from the Mexican hero.

Peloton de la Muerte launched with a lineup of 3 expressions: the Criollo, Espadin, and Pechuga. These were followed in December 2021 by the Cenizo or "With My Friends". It's crafted from sustainably cultivated wild cenizo agaves. These are fermented in open-air vats for 4 days before being distilled twice in 200L copper pot stills. The mezcal joven is bottled at 90.2 proof. Hand-picked by local artist Ricardo Gonzales, the spirit is crafted in Durango with respect to the rich tradition and history of mezcal.
