About Eight & Sand
The first expression in MGP Indiana's Rack House Series, Eight & Sand Blended Bourbon Whiskey is a blend of selected fine bourbons and whiskies, all aged over four years. Crafted with no additives, colors, or artificial flavors, it's named after the American Transcontinental Railroad, referring to the fastest 8th setting on a locomotive's throttle and the sand that's used on the wheel to prevent slipping – this state is also described as smooth sailing. With spicy rye and cinnamon notes followed by a touch of caramel, the name is certainly fitting as this wonderful 88-proof whiskey provides a smooth tasting experience.
The rich distilling tradition in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, dates back over 170 years. MGP Indiana distillery was founded in 1847 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and today, it is one of the largest distillery operations in the United States. Although the MGP Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana is relatively unknown compared to other large distilleries, those in whiskey circles recognize MGP as America’s chief supplier of white label product for other brands, both large and small. In fact, several of the most celebrated brands of recent years — including Angel’s Envy, Bulleit, High West and Smooth Ambler — contain whiskey originally distilled at MGP.
"I have always been a humble person by nature," says Greg Metze, the master distiller at MGP Distillery and an employee of the Lawrenceburg, Indiana facility since 1978. "I achieve self-satisfaction and gratification working alongside our operators, and by knowing we produce first-rate products."
There are not many things more American than bourbon, and although most of it is produced in Kentucky, it can be produced all over the USA. It must be made with at least 51% corn and bottled at 40% ABV or higher. So why not give this American classic a try?
Reddish gold hue. The nose is sweet with vanilla and a touch of strawberries.
The palate is soft and sweet with spicy rye and cinnamon notes, followed by a touch of caramel apple, and nutmeg. The finish is pleasantly warming.
