About Bladnoch Adela 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The historic Lowlands distillery Bladnoch has had its fair share of ups and downs and was purchased in 2015 by Australian entrepreneur David Prior. Whisky production resumed soon after with 3 expressions released to celebrate the occasion: the Samsara, Talia, and Adela. The latter is a 15-year-old Lowland single malt that was matured in Oloroso sherry casks before being bottled at 93.4 proof without chill-filtration and added coloring. "Adela" is Latin for "rich and noble" ― a fitting description for a single malt of considerable depth. The whisky has since won several awards, including the coveted Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and a Silver Medal at the Scotch Whisky Masters, both in 2017.

About Bladnoch

Founded in 1817, Bladnoch was initially established as a Farmhouse Distillery by John and Thomas McClelland on their farm. In the following century, the distillery kept growing, the successive generations of the family gradually modernizing the operation. Over the course of the 20th century, the distillery changed hands multiple times, closing its doors during World War II and reopening in 1956 as Bladnoch Distillery Limited. Most recently, it was acquired by David Prior. In 2017, after 2 years of refurbishment and renovation, the distillery resumed production.

Situated on the banks of the River Bladnoch, in Scotland's Lowlands, Bladnoch stands out as Scotland's southernmost distillery. A quaint distillery, Bladnoch uses just one pair of stills, creating whiskies known for their signature light/delicate character, highly sought after by connoisseurs. They source the water from the Bladnoch River. The whiskey production is overseen by Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage, formerly of The Macallan.

About Scotch

Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.

The nose is rich with raisin, sultana, orange zest, and wood spice aromas. These are joined by fruit cake, cinnamon, and chocolate on the pleasantly sweet palate. The finish is equally rich, drying, and satisfyingly long.
