About Zaya Gran Reserva 16 Year Old Rum

Zaya Rum is an old favorite of many. Originally produced in Guatemala, the premium sipping rum is now made in Trinidad and Tobago by Trinidad Distillers Ltd. The updated Zaya Gran Reserva is a blend of rare rums aged up to 16 years, carefully selected by the Master Blender for each batch to ensure that the complex, rich, deep, and balanced profile is consistently tasty.

Crafted with high-quality blackstrap molasses particularly suited for barrel aging, the spirit is distilled in a five-column stainless steel still. The rum is bottled at 80 proof and has a rich profile with vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, cocoa, and fruit notes with a distinct sweetness throughout. The redesigned, sleeker bottle features an updated age statement and label design paying tribute to Trinidad and Tobago, known as "The Land of the Hummingbird", with a depiction of a golden hummingbird and the country's national flower ― the chaconia. This complex sipper is versatile as well, adding complexity to various tiki cocktails.

About Rum

Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.

We distinguish between 4 different Rum categories, where white or unaged rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark, spiced, and añejo (aged) rum are mostly enjoyed neat.
