About Ten To One Caribbean Dark Rum: Black History Month Artist Edition

This award-winning blend of 8-year-old Barbados and Dominican column still rums, combined with high-ester Jamaican pot still rum and Trinidadian rum, is aged in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels and delivers a delicious dram with a complex flavor profile.

But the 86-proof delicacy is so much more than that. Ten To One created the very limitedly released Black History Month Artist Edition in collaboration with the New York-based visual artist Davin B. Johnson in honor of Black History Month.

The label features Johnson’s artwork paying homage to the power and wisdom of shared heritage titled Inner Glow. The blue is a nod to West African influence and represents harmony and togetherness, while the figure symbolizes the African diaspora –with a ‘poignant gaze towards the future.’

About Ten To One

Ten To One was founded and launched in 2019 by Marc Farrell, born in Trinidad and raised in the Caribbean. Farell was Starbucks' youngest Vice President, but has been a passionate advocate of both rum and Caribbean culture. "We wanted to create a contemporary and elevated blend, designed to challenge expectations and reinvigorate the way people taste, experience and talk about rum," says Farrell. "The inspiration for creating blends comes from our desire to tell a story that reflects the different cultures, communities and perspectives celebrated by Ten To One."

Named after a phrase by Trinidad and Tobago's first Prime Minister, "Ten To One" is about sticking together and overcoming great odds. The brand's goal stretches beyond simply bringing ultra-premium Caribbean rum to the US and global market, "broadening and challenging the current perception around rum and the occasions for which it might be considered the spirit of choice for today’s consumer," says Farrell.

About Rum

Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.

We distinguish between 4 different Rum categories, where white or unaged rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark, spiced, and añejo (aged) rum are mostly enjoyed neat.

This dram sports a beautiful ambery-golden hue. It’s rich on the nose with notes of honey and fruits highlighted with a little spice. The palate gets a richer-than-your-average dark Ten To One treatment with a delicious ‘menage’ of vanilla, nutmeg, dried fruits, cinnamon, banana bread, and allspice. The finish is long and very pleasant.
