About Blackened 72 Seasons Whiskey

When Blackened whiskey was launched in 2018, Sweet Amber Distilling Co. teamed up with the legendary whiskey distiller Dave Pickerell and heavy metal icons Metallica. Blackened is a blend of some of the finest North American bourbons and ryes that employs a unique finishing process. Long-time Metallica collaborators ― the innovating sound-engineering wizards Meyer Sound ― created a special subwoofer that transfers vibrations efficiently through the casks. They dubbed this proprietary process Black Noise, trademarked it, then proceeded to play tracks by Metallica ― chosen specifically for each batch by the band themselves ― to the whiskey, the vibration helping the liquid seep deeper into the wood and enhancing the flavor. Blackened 72 Seasons Batch is a limited-edition version of the original Blackened whiskey, released in 2023 alongside Metallica's 72 Seasons album. Naturally, the new album was played to the whiskey using the Black Noise process.

About Blackened

Both masters in their respective fields, Metallica, the heavy metal band, and the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, considered the founding father of craft distilling, joined forces and presented to the world Blackened whiskey. Sharing their creative fire, they crafted an unconventional whiskey, made with a process like no other. Dave Pickerell was interested in how sound could affect substances on a molecular level.

About American Whiskey

There are two main representatives of the American whiskey family, bourbon, and rye, but some other spirits don't fall into those two strictly regulated categories.

There's equally strictly regulated American single malt, made from 100% malted barley, Tennessee whiskey, essentially bourbon filtered through maple charcoal and aged in new charred oak barrels.

And then there's moonshine, a high proof (150- 170 proof) distilled spirit mainly made out of corn which gained popularity during the prohibition.

Check out our impressive selection of American single malts, or find your new favorite in our rich whisk(e)y selection, and get familiarized with what the world has to offer.
