About Black Button Port Finished Barrel Strength Bourbon
Specializing in grain-to-glass spirits, Black Button Distillery produces over 1,350 bottles of world-class spirits each week, and every batch is distilled, aged, bottled, labeled, and hand-numbered at the distillery. “We have a big philosophy here that the closer you are to nature, the better,” says Barrett, who is Black Button Distilling President/Head Distiller. “Higher quality grains grown in specific ways yield better products.”
Black Button distillery pays homage to Barrett’s grandfather and the world of whiskey that he knew. The world where Barret says “…real men worked hard and drank real pot distilled whiskey.” This expression is as “real” as it gets. A Port-finished, barrel strength, single barrel straight bourbon, bottled unfiltered at an audacious 110.8 proof.
With notes of chocolate, cherry, stone fruit, oak and corn, this spirit is aged for a minimum of two years in white oak. The bourbon is then finished for another year in a freshly harvested port cask from Port of NY Winery in Ithaca, NY. “Our Port Finished Barrel Strength Single Barrel Straight Bourbon is the finest reflection of what it means for us to live large in small batches,” says Barrett. “This spirit — made with the best local ingredients — truly represents the best of what Black Button Distilling has to offer.”

About Black Button
In 2012, Jason Barrett became the head distiller and founder of Black Button Distilling – at only 24 years old. Coming from a family of the finest men's suit buttons makers, worn by "Presidents, Popes, Kings, and Businessmen the world over", Barret worked in his grandfather’s factory when he was younger, but soon realized he wanted to carve out his own path.
After graduating, Barrett returned to his hometown of Rochester, New York, to follow his passion – make whiskey and open a craft distillery, the first in Rochester since Prohibition times. Named Black Button because of a family inside joke – Barret is color blind and the family always joked that they’d need to produce only black buttons if we were to take over the family business – every small batch of Black Button spirits is made from local NY grains with over 90% of ingredients grown or produced in New York State. Everything from corn, wheat, rye, and barley to dairy cream and apple cider comes from family farms in New York State to support local and sustainable agriculture. They even grow their own juniper for Black Button gin at the Black Button Farm in South Bristol. Besides whiskey and gin, Black Button’s wide range includes vodka, moonshine, and liqueur.
There are not many things more American than bourbon, and although most of it is produced in Kentucky, it can be produced all over the USA.
It must be made with at least 51% corn and bottled at 40% ABV or higher. So why not give this American classic a try?
