About Bayou XO Mardi Gras Rum

This rum is an ode to New Orleans' vibrant festivities. Crafted with love in the oldest American sugar mill, this expression gets its unique sweetness from local sugarcane molasses. It's distilled amidst the rich alluvial soils along the Mississippi River Delta, celebrating a tradition dating back to 1829. Savour the luxury of double cask maturation — first in bourbon barrels for five full years, then getting a final flavor flourish in Spanish Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels for another year, thanks to Louisiana's humid climate which nurtures a gentle aging process. Indulge in a sensory parade with notes of orange marmalade, dark stone fruit, and the daring duo of blackcurrant and prune, softened by an undercurrent of sweet tupelo honey. The finish is long and dry with hints of honey, tingling black pepper, and a warming sherry embrace. And let's not forget the accolades — the Double Platinum Award from the "American Spirits Council of Tasting" and two Gold Medals in 2023 alone! Experience a rum as iconic as the Mardi Gras itself with Bayou XO Mardi Gras Rum, where every sip is a festivity.

About Rum

Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.

We distinguish between 4 different Rum categories, where white or unaged rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark, spiced, and añejo (aged) rum are mostly enjoyed neat.

The nose is citrusy with orange marmalade and stone fruit aromas. Look for blackcurrant, prune, oak, and honey sweetness on the palate that leads to a dry finish with honey, black pepper, and sherry notes.
