Armida is a blend of three different straight bourbons: one finished in pear brandy barrels, another in Jamaican rum casks, and the last in Sicilian amaro cask.
Joe Beatrice’s (the founder) family had a farm in the northeast where he would often spend time during the summer and fall. These fruit-flavored memories inspired many of his first test blends, so he named the project after his mother’s formal name: Armida.
The bottle has received several prestigious awards, including a Gold Medal at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Platinum at the 2022 L.A. Spirits Awards.
About Bourbon
There are not many things more American than bourbon, and although most of it is produced in Kentucky, it can be produced all over the USA. It must be made with at least 51% corn and bottled at 40% ABV or higher. So why not give this American classic a try?
On the nose, Barrell Craft Armida Bourbon Whiskey really impresses with sweet notes of carrot cake, dulce de leche, and chestnut honey. You can also detect blackberry and dried lime peel. Notes familiar to Sicilian amaro, such as fennel seed, aniseed, nutmeg, and cacao are also there.
The palate is inviting and offers flavors of blackstrap molasses, sambuca, and olive brine arriving first. The rich, dark character of this cigar builds steadily with date and chipotle flavors leading into pipe tobacco and walnut overtones. The amaro gives the drink a complex flavor, combining licorice root, gentian, and kola nuts with green cardamom.
Expect a dry finish of black tea, slate, and notes of green almond.
