About Alexander Murray & Co. Fettercairn Distillery 18 Year Old
The label has a diverse lineup of products ranging from their extensive Vintage Malt collection, the Monumental blended Scotch range (available in 18- and 30-year-old expressions), The Polly’s Casks bottlings containing Tullibardine single malt finished in Firestone Walker’s Double DPA beer casks, and their signature single malt, the Bon Accord, to name a few.
The 18-year-old Fettercairn comes from the East Highland Fettercairn (local dialect for "foot of the mountain") distillery, which was founded in 1824, making it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. It's a traditional operation with an open-top mash tun that is famous for the nuttier, cereal-rich profile it imparts. However, cooling water is employed during distillation, which somewhat reduces the spirit's heaviness. It has spent 18 years in refill sherry casks.

It's a big and bold profile that is quite heavy. The nose opens with green apples and fresh-cut hay. The palate has honey sweetness, dried fruit, and caramel, as well as nuttiness with an intense chestnut note. It's also dry with additional black tea and sultanas. Finishes pleasantly warming, sweet, and fruity.
