About 400 Conejos Cuishe Mezcal

Nestled between the small towns of Tlacolula and Miahuatlán, in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, lies a distillery called 400 Conejos, which translates to ‘400 rabbits’. This peculiar name is down to a native Mesoamerican religious tradition, where they believed that selected priests could chat with the gods by drinking sacred agave spirits. What’s more, the gods of drinking were also known as ‘centzon-totochtin’ in Nahuatl, where the number 400 is considered an uncountable number—thus representing the behemoth digit of rabbit spirits that are safely tucked in their mezcal bottles. The suitably named ‘400 Conejos Cuishe Mezcal’ expression is a highly-acclaimed spirit, crafted from the espadín and cuishe agaves using a cone-shaped wood oven. It is bottled at 40% ABV and
showcases floral and herbal aromas with subtly sweet cooked agave flavors. This lovely mezcal is transparent in color, with nuanced platinum sparks and was hand-bottled at its prime.

About Mezcal

Mezcal is a distilled spirit made from roasted agave plants between two days and two weeks, which gives it a distinct smokey flavor.
What scotch is for whisk(e)y, mezcal is for tequila.

It can be made from different types of agave in different parts of Mexico, but most of it (60%) comes from the state of Oaxaca. Mezcal offers a large diversity of flavor profiles and ranges between 40 and 55% ABV.
