About Smoke Wagon Bottled In Bond Straight Rye Whiskey

In 2004, screenwriter Jonathan Hensleigh met Aaron Chepenik in Los Angeles. The pair immediately realized they had the same vision of opening a bar, opening The Griffin together. After a couple years of sampling their inventory, they began discussing what they liked and didn't like about the bourbons and vodkas they were selling, eventually leading them to open the first distillery in the city of Las Vegas: Nevada H & C Distilling Co. Smoke Wagon Bottled in Bond is a straight rye whiskey that is distilled from a mash bill of 51% rye and 49% corn, the latter providing rich sweetness to balance the rye spice and black pepper notes. Big, bold, creamy, rich, and fruity, the whiskey is aged at least 4 years and bottled at 100 proof.

About Smoke Wagon

The story of Nevada H & C Distilling Co. began in 2004 when the screenwriter Jonathan Hensleigh met co-founder Aaron Chepenik in a bar in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. They quickly realized they had the same vision for opening a bar - The Griffin, together. After a couple of years of sampling their inventory, they began discussing what they liked and didn't like about the bourbons and vodkas they were selling.

One night, the idea of creating their own spirits popped up, which eventually led to them opening the first distillery in the city of Las Vegas. The City Council had to create a license, especially for them since none existed beforehand. It took 6 years of gathering equipment and setting it up, with several hurdles along the way. The bright side was that by the time they opened their doors, they had several high-rye bourbons ready, which meant they could begin operating immediately.

They have two brands under their belt now, both with several medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition: Silver Dollar and Smoke Wagon.

About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.

The nose is sweet and fruity with caramel, vanilla, black pepper, and floral undertones, along with a touch of baking spices and oak. Look for rye spice, herbal, and floral notes on the sweet and creamy palate that leads to an equally sweet, spicy, and oaky finish.
