About Sam Houston 15 Year Old 2021 Release No. 7 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Sam Houston just keeps on giving. After releasing the rich and complex Straight Bourbon Whiskey 15 Year Old Nr 6 in spring 2021, which became an instant hit with connoisseurs, Sam Bourbon drops another bomb (of flavors in your mouth) in the fall. Here comes batch Nr 7: with about 15 years in the barrels, this bourbon is the most aged whiskey from Sam Houston to date.

Crafted from specific barrels in a private reserve of premium bourbon, this rare whiskey was aged in state-based batches of 2 or 3 barrels. Since every batch was aging in its own barrel, no two batches are exactly the same. But regardless of the batch, you can always count on that magic taste profile of sweet oaky deliciousness that is Sam Houston’s premium Bourbons.

The bourbon was distilled from a mash bill of 74% Corn, 18% Rye, and 8% Malted Barley and it is bottled at 103 proof without the use of chill filtering, adding depth of character and color to the bourbon. Each bottle is lovingly hand-labeled with specific aging notes and numbered.

About Sam Houston

Sam Houston, the namesake of Houston, Texas, was truly one of a kind. After running away from home as a boy to join a Cherokee tribe in Tennessee, Houston eventually returned to his family before heading off again to fight the British in the War of 1812. Following the war, Houston — by then widely recognized as Andrew Jackson's protégé — climbed the political ranks and was elected Governor of Tennessee. After a few controversies in office, Houston moved to the Mexican-controlled territory of Texas, where he was immediately swept up into politics once again. Using his past military experience, he became a fierce leader in the state's fight for independence. His victory at the Battle of San Jacinto established Texas' independence from Mexico, and Houston further secured the new state's annexation to the United States of America. Houston was elected Governor of Texas in 1827, making him the only American to serve as Governor for two different states.

The nose is complex, but not overpowering: citrusy oak, orange, vanilla, brown sugar, and then some gentle barrel char. Taste is fruit dominant, with burned sugar and oak coming through. The finish is long, of charred barrel and sugar.
