About Malfy Gin Originale

The Malfy distillery is located in Moncalieri, situated just outside of the city of Torino; the region is renowned for its production of wines, spirits, and liqueurs. Torino Distillati was established in 1906. To this day the distillery is run by the Vergnano family; Carlo and his wife Piera as well as their children Rita and Valter.

The gin is distilled by Master Distillers Denis Muni and Beppe Ronco. When Malfy gin was brought to the US in 2016 it was the first Italian gin to be imported there. In 2019 the brand was acquired by Pernod Ricard from its former owners Biggar & Leith. There are currently 4 gin expressions in the lineup: The Originale, the lemon-flavored Con Limone, the pink grapefruit Gin Rosa, and Con Arancia with blood oranges.

This family-owned producer has been manufacturing spirits for several generations, but Carlo Vergnano and Beppe Ronco are also avid mountaineers, so it's the nearby Monviso mountain that has inspired Malfy Gin Originale. The pure spring water is sourced from the mountain and Italian junipers and coriander are among the 7 botanicals used in crafting the gin. A stainless steel vacuum still is used for distillation.

About Gin

According to Winston Churchill, "The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives and minds than all the doctors in the Empire," referring to the British officers using it to treat malaria in India.

Initially made for medicinal purposes, gin gets most of its flavor from the juniper berries added after the distillation process. It sure has come a long way from the Middle Ages, with the introduction of new botanicals, fruits, and spices, bringing it closer to people of all flavor varieties.
