About Chicken Cock Red Stave Bourbon Whiskey

Chicken Cock Whiskey Red Stave is a bold meeting of two iconic American industries - Kentucky bourbon and California wine. The bourbon is finished in Petite Sirah barrels from J. Wilkes Winery in the Paso Robles Highlands District of California. The result? A beautiful, rich mahogany color, teasing with hints of dark chocolate, toasted oak, and dried fruit. Savor the bold caramel and vanilla notes that soon give way to a fruity medley of pear, apple, cherry, and red currant. The finish? A complex, lingering blend of nutmeg, clove spice, and a bright cranberry tartness with a hint of black pepper. An experience not to be missed, this unique bourbon is bottled at 102.4 proof.

About Chicken Cock

Grain & Barrel Spirits is the passion project of Matti Anttila a former J.P. Morgan investment banker turned spirits entrepreneur. During a business trip to Brazil, he sampled the local Brazilian Cachaça. He enjoyed it so much so that he decided to launch Cabana Cachaça quickly building it into a successful brand. After another spirits investment, he founded Grain & Barrel Spirits in 2013.

The Chicken Cock label dates all the way back to 1856, and is one of the oldest bourbon brands in history. The brand was successful in Paris, Kentucky, its popularity peaking during Prohibition when production was moved to Canada. In the 1950’s the Chicken Cock Distillery was destroyed by a fire, and in 2016 Grain & Spirits bought the brand and released their line of Whiskey.

Tasting Notes

The nose is rich and oaky with dark chocolate and dried fruit aromas. Look for caramel, chocolate, and vanilla notes on the palate with orchard fruit, cherry, and berry flavors following suit. The finish is long with cranberry, black pepper, and baking spices.
