About Catedral de Mi Padre Mezcal Ensamble (Espadin + Cuishe)

Catedral De Mi Padre Mezcal is the brainchild of the father-daughter duo Jeff and Sydney Block. Having lived in Oaxaca for 8 years, the pair became enamored with the famous Mexican spirit and the way it connects "religion, culture, and family." Launched in 2022, their California-based brand partnered with 6 maestros mezcaleros from Oaxaca, releasing 6 different mezcals: 4 single varietal expressions and 2 ensemble mezcals. Each of these embraces the rich tradition and is handmade to deliver a true farm-to-bottle experience. Catedral De Mi Padre Mezcal Ensamble (Espadin + Cuishe) is crafted by Maestro Mezcalero Joel, who has lived in the mountains near Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca, his whole life. There, at 5,500 ft above sea level, agaves grow abundantly. With several generations of mezcaleros in his family, Joel uses artisanal practices when crafting his mezcal in his palenque that's kosher certified. Double-distilled in small batches in copper pots, the mezcal that's crafted with espadin and cuishe agaves is bottled at 96 proof.

About Mezcal

Mezcal is a distilled spirit made from roasted agave plants between two days and two weeks, which gives it a distinct smokey flavor.
What scotch is for whisk(e)y, mezcal is for tequila.

It can be made from different types of agave in different parts of Mexico, but most of it (60%) comes from the state of Oaxaca. Mezcal offers a large diversity of flavor profiles and ranges between 40 and 55% ABV.

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with aromas of smoke, clove, and dried spices. The palate is equally smoky and green with clove and charred jalapeno peppers leading to a smoky and pleasantly spicy finish.
