About BHAKTA 1990 Jamaican Rum

Bhakta Spirits was founded by Raj Peter Bhakta of WhistlePig Whiskey fame. Bhakta 1990 Jamaican Rum is a blend of 25-year-old column still rum from Clarendon/Monymusk and 23-year-old pot still rum from Appleton Estates. Aged for 26 glorious years and released at a potent 124 proof, this rum is a testament to the art of distillation. The blend was married in 2014 and spent an additional three years aging in second-fill MGP bourbon and rye barrels. The cherry on top? A signature cask finish in Armagnac casks. Imagine a symphony of fig, red fruit, allspice, and clove on your palate, with a finale of whipped frosting, apricot, nutmeg, and licorice.

About Bhakta Spirits

Raj Peter Bhakta is many things: an entrepreneur, a political candidate, even a reality show contestant. He founded WhistlePig in 2007, eventually selling it in 2019. Then, he set his sights on a fresh project, embarking on a quest to find something rare and exquisite ― a venture that would shake up the spirits industry. In France, he discovered a cellar, filled with armagnacs that were distilled between 1868 and 1970. He envisioned an ancient brandy, tailored to the tastes of whiskey lovers. Thus, Bhakta 50 was born.

About Rum

Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.

We distinguish between 4 different Rum categories, where white or unaged rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark, spiced, and añejo (aged) rum are mostly enjoyed neat.
