About Benromach 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

There are not many things in this world that are finer than a well-aged Benromach. Whiskies are a sacred affair in Speyside, Scotland. They are made with love and a touch of a caring hand, using only the best barley, water, and yeast, and matured exclusively first-fill casks. No messing around here, everything must be done to perfection. A true Speysider is filled with warm notes of fruit and vanilla, and only a touch of subtle smokiness that will awaken your taste buds. This 21 Year Old single malt has been hand-filled in a duo of first-fill sherry and bourbon casks and rolled into Benromach traditional dunnage warehouses that assure consistent temperatures, allowing for a perfect maturation process. After 21 years of aging, it was bottled at an ABV of 43%. Collecting awards left and right since its release, this fine liquid is a treat that your taste buds will never forget.

About Benromach

Situated on the outskirts of the ancient Royal Borough of Forres, Benromach Distillery was founded in 1898 by Duncan McCallum, a former distiller at the Glen Nevis Distillery in Campbeltown, and FW Brickman, a former spirits broker from Edinburgh. After just two short years of operation, McCallum and Brickman were forced to close the doors to Benromach Distillery and since then, the distillery has changed hands a number of times. In 1993, malt whisky specialists Gordon & MacPhail acquired the distillery and began refurbishing it. The experts at Gordon & MacPhail took five years to re-equip the distillery with two new stills and secure the water rights to Champelton Springs in Romach Hills. On October 15, 1998, Benromach Distillery was officially reopened by Prince Charles of Wales.

About Scotch

Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.

On the nose, deep Oloroso Sherry comes through, followed by notes of plum, raspberry jam, orange skins, dried apricot, vanilla, toasted brown sugar, ginger, and oak. The palate is even deeper with notes of stewed orchard fruit, chocolate, raisins, orange marmalade, honey, praline, red berries, gingerbread, black pepper, oak, and of course, smoke. The finish is long with hints of toffee, oak spice, and fruitcake.
