Astraea Spirits is the brainchild of Master Distiller Danielle Leavell, who launched the distillery in 2019. A Midwestern girl, Leavell found her passion in 2012, after trying a particularly delicious cocktail. After leaving behind a career in photography, she poured her knowledge of herbs into distillation, earning her title as a Master Distiller at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. The Seattle-based distillery brings together European distillation standards and modern American approaches, reflected in their lineup of London dry gins. Macerated and distilled in a Vendome copper kettle still in small batches using local botanicals, the gins are slowly brought to 90 proof. Astraea Meadow London Dry Gin is a soft and floral expression with aromas, reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest mountain flowers. The gin won the coveted Double Gold Medal at the 2022 edition of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

About Gin
According to Winston Churchill, "The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives and minds than all the doctors in the Empire," referring to the British officers using it to treat malaria in India.
Initially made for medicinal purposes, gin gets most of its flavor from the juniper berries added after the distillation process. It sure has come a long way from the Middle Ages, with the introduction of new botanicals, fruits, and spices, bringing it closer to people of all flavor varieties.
The nose is bright with citrus and floral aromas. Look for lemon verbena and chamomile on the palate that leads to a gently sweet finish with honeysuckle.
