72 Mile Spirits came into being in the breathtakingly beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains and the pristine waters of Lake Tahoe. If you venture just west of the lake, you'll find the Desolation Wilderness, a hidden gem boasting jaw-dropping vistas and cascading waterfalls. With a commitment to small batch production, 72 Mile Spirits start their mash in 150-gallon batches before adding grains and cooking it to perfection. Next, they pitch yeast and patiently allow the mash to ferment. The smoked rye distillate, with whispers of oak and barley, ages for two years in new American Oak casks at 110 proof before being bottled at 95 proof — with no additives. Non-chill filtered and proofed with nothing but the purest water straight from Lake Tahoe, this Desolation Rye Whiskey boasts aromas of rye spice, black pepper, and the distant sweetness of honey. The palate is youthful and spicy, generously revealing flavors of smoke, rye spice, cherry, and honey. The lingering and fiery finale leaves you with a dash of honeyed sweetness.

About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.
