Sasanokawa Shuzo Co. was founded in 1765 and is the only distiller in the northeast region of Japan. The sake brewery in Koriyama, Fukushi, is among the oldest in the country. They expanded the operation to whisky production in 1946. The oldest component in Yamazakura Blended Japanese Whisky was initially matured in barrels for 15 years, then moved to tanks, and barreled again to complete its 20 years of maturation. The whisky is bottled at 80 proof and features an impressive balance of fruit, spice, grain, and oak notes.

About Japanese Whisky
Although maybe not be the first Spirit you would think of when Japan is mentioned; the Japanese make one of the best types of whisky in the world. It’s heavily influenced by scotch but with smoother and delicate notes.
The history of the Japanese whisky is not even a century old, but in this short time, the Japanese blended and single malts have taken over the world by storm and can easily go against their whisk(e)y counterparts from across the globe.
The nose is oaky, fruity, and sweet with wood, orange, apple, and spice aromas. The palate is pleasantly sweet and fruity with honey, orange marmalade, marzipan, spice, beeswax, and a touch of oak and smoke. It's a balanced expression from the aroma to the finish where the notes linger and spice intensifies.
