About The Singleton of Glen Ord 15 Year Old 2022 Special Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Situated in the Scottish Highlands, the Black Isle peninsula only has one remaining whisky distillery: The Singleton of Glen Ord. Founded in 1838, the distillery has been constantly operating, save for the two World Wars. The Singleton of Glen Ord 15 was released as part of Diageo's 2022 Special Releases collection that explores the boundaries of aromas and flavors within whisky, highlighting some of the most iconic distilleries. The 15-year-old single malt Scotch was initially matured in refill American and European oak casks, then double-matured in wine-seasoned casks. Decadently layered and deliciously tannic, it's a balanced expression with notes of oak, red berries, vanilla, grape, sweetness, and just a touch of salt, making for a delicious sipper that's bottled at 108 proof.

About The Singleton

Situated in the Speyside region of Scotland, the Dufftown Distillery was founded in 1895 by four wine merchants who, together, purchased a stone built saw and meal mill and converted into a distillery. Located near the confluence of the Rivers Dullan and Fiddich, the distillery draws its water from Jock's Well, which is renowned for its incredibly pure and flavorful spring water (on more than one occasion, nearby distilleries — particularly Mortlach — have been caught attempting to divert water from the well to their own distillery).

Singleton of Dufftown Single Malt Scotch Whisky is crafted exclusively from malted barley, which is milled and mashed before being fermented in the distillery's wooden washbacks. Following fermentation, the whisky is distilled twice: first through a copper pot wash still and then again through a copper pot spirit still.

About Scotch

Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.
