When it comes to whiskey-making, the Power family is not afraid to think outside the bottle. They craft their Irish Rye Whiskey with care and precision at Midleton Distillery, using only the finest 100% Irish rye. This non-chill filtered whiskey is undisputably a product of the Emerald Isle, showcasing the Power family's unyielding commitment to excellence. A few decades ago, rye was on the ropes in Ireland, but they saw potential in this once-beloved grain. They started out with a small plot of land in Wexford, and much to their (and our) relief, it was a success! The fertile coastal soil yielded rye brimming with flavor and a prolonged fermentation period unlocked an even more profound character. Thanks to the perfect mash of skilled blending and American oak casks, Powers is taking Irish rye to new heights. Expect notes of candied ginger, orange peel, and peppermint, with a hint of caramelized apples and brown sugar. The vanilla and charred oak add depth and balance to the signature spices, resulting in a bold and spicy whiskey that gives the American classic a run for its money.

About Powers

In 1791, John Powers founded the John’s Lane Distillery, which at the time was located on the outskirts of a growing Dublin City. The distillery used for its motive-power the first steam engine erected in Ireland — the engine was constructed for the sole purpose of producing pot still whiskey.

John Power & Son was the first Irish distiller to bottle its own whiskey, adopting a gold label exclusively for Powers bottled at John's Lane. The gold label guaranteed the higher quality and distinguished it from the white label Powers which was bottled by independent whiskey bonders. Hence it became customary when in a public house, to call for a "gold label."

Power's unique distillation process uses only the heart of the distillate, delivering a richly complex, and layered flavor profile that has been a standard of Irish Whiskey since 1791. This Three Swallow Release is a modern take on the original "Pure Pot Still Whiskey" style that made POWERS one of the best selling whiskeys in the world.

John's Lane was known for having incredibly high standards. Each of his coaches had three coachmen, a driver, and assistant up front, and another at the rear. This Three Swallow whiskey is inspired by the tradition of coachmen bringing along small flasks of POWERS whiskey on long rides. The amount of whiskey was just enough to give each man a good swallow, but not enough to interfere with his job. This tradition of "three swallows" was the original inspiration for the iconic POWERS symbol used to this day.

About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, Powers Irish Rye Whiskey presents a complex blend of burnt orange, maraschino cherries, and toffee banana, with rich and warming notes of freshly baked rye bread, buttered croissants, and charred oak. The palate hints of candied ginger with a burst of orange peel, clove spice, and peppermint. Caramelized apples with brown sugar, sweet cereal, and red licorice notes develop as the vanilla and charred oak influence work in harmony with the rye signature spices. The finish is long-lasting, with a splash of chili oil that lingers alongside notes of honey-glazed fruits and cereal.
