About Frapin VIP XO Cognac

A family of 21 generations of winegrowers and distillers, the Frapin family has been established in Segonzac in the Cognac region in South-West France where they have been producing prestigious cognacs in Fontpinot Castle since 1270. With an impressive family lineage – the famous 16th century French Renaissance writer François Rabelais was the son of Anne Catherine Frapin and Antoine Rabelais – the House of Frapin boasts over 750 years of rich cognac-making experience.

At the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris, Frapin cognacs were awarded a gold medal by Gustave Eiffel himself – he also constructed the iron framework of the Chai de Segonzac at the Frapin estate. In 2003, Frapin vintage 1948 was served for Queen Elizabeth II when Margaret Thatcher hosted a dinner at 10 Downing Street. The House of Frapin was also the first to introduce a Multi Millésime expression, which is a multi-vintage blend, combining vintages of different years to create the perfect taste.

Frapin VIP XO is a 100% Grande Champagne blend that is harvested, distilled over lees, and aged at the estate. The award-winning expression is enhanced with very old cognac from the cellars, its long aging resulting in a round, aromatic, sophisticated, and complex spirit that speaks of the passion that has been poured into its creation. This luxurious cognac is bottled at 80 proof.

About Cognac

Cognac is a type of brandy produced in the Cognac region of France.
Because the French take it very seriously, there are numerous rules cognac makers have to follow not to fall “short” into the brandy category.

The white wine from the specific grapes (Ugni blanc) has to be doubly distilled in a copper pot still before being aged for at least two years in oak casks from which the wood can only come from two specific forests in France (Limousin or Tronçais).

Depending on the age, there are three types of cognac, the youngest V.S. (Very Special), V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale), and the X.O. (Extra Old)
