About Roots Kanela Liqueur

In 2013, two Greek brothers Manos and Nikolas made the decision to “go back to their roots” in the oldest distillery in Greece and they created Roots – a new range of premium liqueurs. Based on time-honored liqueur recipes and rare Greek ingredients, the collection includes Roots Rakomelo, Roots Mastic, Roots Kanela, and Roots Diktamo as well as Roots Divino; two non-alcoholic craft aperitifs. All Roots liqueurs are handcrafted and made with ancient herbs, all sourced sustainably in Greece, to bring to the world the traditional Greek spirits in an exciting new form. Today, Roots liqueurs can be found in the best bars in London, Athens, Rome, and Paris with each spirit telling its own story.

Roots Kanela is a modern take on a 15th century "tentura" recipe from the Ionian Islands. In the past, homemade tinctures or extracts were made with spices that came to the ports in the Ionian Sea, such as true cinnamon and clove buds, and the timeless recipe used for Roots Kanela honors this tradition. A neat digestif, its unique palate with rich flavors of cinnamon and lush earthy notes with sweet peppermint, cedar and vanilla makes Roots Kanela perfect for enjoying after dinner or for spicing up any cocktail with a drop of cinnamon.
