About Patrón Ahumado Reposado Tequila

With a bold move, Patron has created an entirely new spirit - a drink that is as sweet and smooth as a tequila but also possesses the smokiness that is typically found in a mezcal. Starting off the same way as every Patron tequila does - by jimadores hunting down only the ripest agave leaves to be hand-cut - Patron Ahumado then takes a different turn. Whereas the agave used for other tequilas is roasted just for the time it takes for them to be fully cooked, the piñas selected for Patron Ahumado spend at least one whole week being roasted in small stone ovens at Hacienda Patron in Jalisco, Mexico. Deep down in the undergrounds of the Hacienda, the piñas are taking on the smoke that would become a crucial component of Ahumado tequila.

The Reposado bottle is then aged for a minimum of 2 months in small oak barrels, adding notes of oak, caramel, and vanilla to this sweet, smooth, and smokey tequila. Cleverly bottled in an amber-colored bottle to keep the liquid inside fresh, this high-end tequila is best drunk neat or on the rocks.

About Patrón Tequila

"The Patrón Spirits Company was launched in 1989 by John Paul DeJoira and Martin Crowley. With its inception, came the world’s first ultra-premium Tequila. A new state-of-the-art facility was constructed in Jalisco in 2002, to facilitate its profound reception. It became the first spirits brand in its class to sell one million cases.

Francisco Alcaraz is the Master Distiller & Blender behind the recipe for the Mexican spirit. Produced at the Hacienda de Patrón, the distillery sources agaves from Los Altos in Jalisco. Roca Patrón is crafted from 100% Weber Blue Agave which are harvested after six to seven years by expert Jimadors.

The agaves are then crushed by a two-ton volcanic stone Tahona, a centuries-old tradition that breaks down the fibers. The freshly milled desert succulents are slow-roasted in a brick oven for 79 hours, before being fermented in wooden vats. The agave juice is distilled in small batches through handmade copper stills with the agave fibers to produce an earthy flavor. "

About Tequila

Although tequila has developed a bad reputation, there's more to the spirit than just shots on a Saturday night.

This traditional Mexican drink origins in the state of Jalisco when according to a local legend, lightning struck an agave cactus before the Nahua tribe drank its warm nectar. Behold, tequila.

Legally, tequila has to be made of 51% of Blue agave around the Jalisco region in Mexico. There are different types of tequila according to age - from the youngest representatives, blanco, reposado, and añejo, to the oldest extra añejo.
