About Hardy Cognac

In 1863, a London cognac importer named Anthony Hardy who was fascinated with the French culture and the art of cognac-making settled along the banks of the River Charente in France after making the aller-retour for decades. Hardy finally founded Maison Hardy, one of the oldest and most prestigious cognac houses in the country. He quickly immersed himself in French culture and even adopted the Gaelic form of his name, Antoine. In 1869, his hard work and dedication to Cognac were rewarded when Maison Hardy Cognac Fine Champagne was awarded the Diploma of Excellence at the Amsterdam exhibition, one of the most prestigious awards at the time.

Today, Bénédicte Hardy represents the fifth generation of Hardy Cognac makers. "We have always asserted our own, very particular spirit," says Hardy. "Our cognac style is the exact opposite of robust, and we wanted the colors of the collection to embody the mild character, finesse and daring style that are our hallmarks."

About Cognac

Cognac is a type of brandy produced in the Cognac region of France.
Because the French take it very seriously, there are numerous rules cognac makers have to follow not to fall “short” into the brandy category.

The white wine from the specific grapes (Ugni blanc) has to be doubly distilled in a copper pot still before being aged for at least two years in oak casks from which the wood can only come from two specific forests in France (Limousin or Tronçais).

Depending on the age, there are three types of cognac, the youngest V.S. (Very Special), V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale), and the X.O. (Extra Old)
