About Gran Centenario Añejo Tequila

Añejo tequilas must be aged for at least 1 year in wood barrels with ex-bourbon barrels being the most common. Gran Centenario Añejo tequila is aged in new American oak barrels, which is not a very common choice for tequilas. Resulting in an unparallelly smooth tequila and aromas of toasted oak and chocolate as well as in a soft, balanced and complex profile, this authentic tequila is bottled at 80 proof. At Gran Centenario, they recommend you enjoy it in a Golden Angel, which includes ginger, fresh lemon, lime juice and agave nectar.

About Gran Centenario

A brand of authentic Mexican tequilas with a rich tradition, Gran Centenario tequilas have been crafted in small batches since 1857 in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Founded by tavern owner Lázaro Gallardo who began making 100% agave tequilas, a special procedure called Selección Suave™ is used during production, which was invented by Gallardo. Suave meaning ‘smooth’ in Spanish, Gallardo wanted to create the smoothest possible tequila by adding the richer, older and smoother reserves to the blend. Today, Gran Centenario is still family-owned with several generations passing down experience and knowledge to the next one. Even the bottle of Gran Centenario tequilas is still the same as it was in 1920 when it was designed by Gallardo's son who was inspired by the Art Deco style.

About Tequila

Although tequila has developed a bad reputation, there's more to the spirit than just shots on a Saturday night.

This traditional Mexican drink origins in the state of Jalisco when according to a local legend, lightning struck an agave cactus before the Nahua tribe drank its warm nectar. Behold, tequila.

Legally, tequila has to be made of 51% of Blue agave around the Jalisco region in Mexico. There are different types of tequila according to age - from the youngest representatives, blanco, reposado, and añejo, to the oldest extra añejo.
