About Frangelico Liqueur Gift Set
Frangelico is a hazelnut liqueur that hails from Canale in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. The brand was introduced in 1978, but the origins of the liqueur date much farther back. It was supposedly created some 3 centuries ago by Christian monks who would distill similar liqueurs using wild hazelnuts and other ingredients. That's where the liqueur gets its name ― Fra' Angelico was a hermit monk that is said to have lived in Piedmont in the 18th century.
It all starts with Italian tonda gentile hazelnuts that are known for their sweetness. After the harvest, they are shelled, toasted, and crushed, before being infused in a solution of alcohol and water. This infusion is then distilled, then blended with extract and distillates from cocoa seeds, vanilla berries, coffee, and other flavorings. The resulting concentrate then gets blended with pure alcohol, sugar, and water, before being transferred into vats where it rests for 6 to 8 weeks, allowing the aromas and flavors to marry.
The 40-proof liqueur is rich, sweet, yet refreshing with intense hazelnut notes along with touches of coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla. The liqueur is a delicious sipper as well as a versatile cocktail ingredient. The bottle is truly unique, paying tribute to the origins of the drink. It's shaped in the habit of a Franciscan friar, complete with a friar's cord. This gift set contains a full-sized bottle as well as 4 shot glasses.
