About Tanglin Gin

Tanglin Gin was the first ever gin distillery in Singapore. It was founded by four expats, Briton Andy Hodgson, Charlie Van Eeden from Holland, and Australians Chris Box and Tim Whitefield, who just wanted to make premium gin. Each brought their own skills and strengths: Tim is the head distiller, Andy deals with the government authorities and regulators, Charlie is in charge of marketing and branding, and Chris takes care of finance. The name Tanglin comes from Tang Leng, which is derived from twa tang leng, meaning great east hill peaks in Chinese.

Every carefully handcrafted Tanglin gin tells a story of Singapore and Asia. Their inaugural release launched in June 2018, Tanglin Orchid Gin, was inspired by the history of spice growing in the Tanglin neighborhood, and paid homage to the city by incorporating Asian ingredients such as Angelica root, vanilla beans, and the dried stems of dendrobium orchids, which are commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. Each of its 11 botanicals was selected because they represent Singapore. Tanglin Gin added a number of expressions and limited releases to its portfolio over the years, each of them a complex, yet balanced and harmonious blend drawing on Singapore’s uniqueness and multiculturality.

About Gin

According to Winston Churchill, "The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives and minds than all the doctors in the Empire," referring to the British officers using it to treat malaria in India.

Initially made for medicinal purposes, gin gets most of its flavor from the juniper berries added after the distillation process. It sure has come a long way from the Middle Ages, with the introduction of new botanicals, fruits, and spices, bringing it closer to people of all flavor varieties.
