Rare Hare is a curator of the most exceptional spirits from across the globe, and with this cognac, it really did find a treasure. Rare Hare Lapine's 60-year-old cognac was sourced from France, from the Herbelot family of winegrowers that has been growing grapes for cognac houses in the nearby region. But for one harvest of particularly plump and sweet Petite Champagne grapes in the late summer of 1961, they made an exception. They didn’t sell it to any of the famous and renowned cognac houses, instead, they distilled it themselves and barreled it for 60 full years. They made the right choice: 1961 is now widely regarded as one of the most exceptional Champagne vintages of the 20th century, and their harvest has become Lapine 60-year-old cognac, one of the finest examples of cognac and the ultimate taste of luxury. One can hardly surpass the price when talking about such luxury, but as it is customary with such treasures, the price delivers. Bottled at an ABV of 40,9%, this outstanding spirit is worth every penny.

About Cognac
Cognac is a type of brandy produced in the Cognac region of France. Because the French take it very seriously, there are numerous rules cognac makers have to follow not to fall “short” into the brandy category.
The white wine from the specific grapes (Ugni blanc) has to be doubly distilled in a copper pot still before being aged for at least two years in oak casks from which the wood can only come from two specific forests in France (Limousin or Tronçais).
Depending on the age, there are three types of cognac, the youngest V.S. (Very Special), V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale), and the X.O. (Extra Old)
On the nose, this cognac is fresh with notes of stone fruits, candied strawberries, and spring foliage. Citrus and lychee are the first notes on the palate, followed closely by buttered toast and orange zest. The finish is long and lingering with hues of vanilla coffee and brandied ice cream.
