About Hotel Starlino Rosso Vermouth
Carlo Vergnano was working for Seagram Italia at the beginning of the 90s. In 1992, he bought the Moncalieri production plant from Seagram, setting the foundations for Torino Distillati ― a family-owned spirits business. The plant was built in Moncalieri in 1906 by a reputable family from Piedmont, Fratelli Ferrero di Riccardo, before coming under Seagram in the 60s.
Today, the company is run by Carlo Vergnano, along with his wife Piera and daughter Rita, who is set to continue the tradition. The company prides itself on professionalism, transparency, and the quality of their raw ingredients. Headquartered in a historic Art Nouveau-style building, the company now operates both the Moncalieri plant and the Santena plant. They are able to make infusions and extracts, distill, flash-chill, and bottle the products.
The Hotel Starlino range consists of the Rosso Vermouth as well as Rosé and Arancione Aperitivos. The original recipe was crafted by Denis Muni and Beppe Ronco, both with 2 decades of experience working on vermouth and aperitivo at Torino Distillati. The Rosso Vermouth starts with several botanicals that include wormwood, raisins, vanilla, ginger, bitter orange, and cloves. After the extraction and distillation of the botanicals, Marsala and Trebbiano wines are added. Then, the vermouth is transferred into ex-bourbon casks for 30 days.
