Located in Cooperstown, NY, the Cooperstown Distillery is best known for its whiskey lineup. But their Fenimore Gin is handcrafted and just as lovely, with several awards to show for it. The gin is made with 14 botanicals that include juniper berries, citrus peel, as well as less traditional ones: eucalyptus, chamomile, star anise, and New York lilac. Named after American writer James Fenimore Cooper, the 80-proof craft spirit is a unique combination of traditional and modern gins that features an aromatic, rich, and complex taste profile.

About Cooperstown Distillery

According to legend, the sport of baseball was invented in the pastures of Cooperstown, NY by American Civil War general Abner Doubleday — while many historians now consider this account to be a myth, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum was nonetheless established in Cooperstown, and the town has virtually become synonymous with the sport of baseball itself.

"Opening a micro-distillery in Cooperstown has been a dream in the making for quite a few years," states Gene Marra, founder of Cooperstown Distillery. Indeed, Marra has successfully married two of America’s greatest pastimes — baseball and distilling — in Cooperstown Distillery, which is a certified "farm distillery" sourcing and utilizing over 51% of New York State based agricultural products.

About Gin

According to Winston Churchill, "The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives and minds than all the doctors in the Empire," referring to the British officers using it to treat malaria in India.

Initially made for medicinal purposes, gin gets most of its flavor from the juniper berries added after the distillation process. It sure has come a long way from the Middle Ages, with the introduction of new botanicals, fruits, and spices, bringing it closer to people of all flavor varieties.

Tasting Notes

The nose is rich and fragrant with aromas of citrus, honey, and hints of spice. The palate is creamy with vanilla, honey, citrus zest, and juniper in the background with hints of herbs and a floral touch. The finish is sweet and floral with lingering notes.
