About Prince de Didonne VS Cognac

Crafted in Jonzac, north of Bordeaux, Prince de Didionne Cognac has its roots in 1847 when the original Cognac trade house was founded by Jules Gautret. A century later it was bought by the Coopérative des Viticulteurs Charentais. In the 1970s the company's name was changed to Unicognac that currently operates under the first cooperative group in the Cognac region ― Ocealia. All of the bottling and packaging takes place at a state-of-the-art facility close to Jonzac.

Approximately 500 Charentais winegrowers rely on Unicognac's swan-neck Charentais pot stills. The winegrowers supply the wines, Unicognac takes care of the distillation as well as aging in their vast cellars. In the end, the maître de chai blends the eaux-de-vie into premium expressions. This lowers the production and marketing costs for the winegrowers, while Unicognac has a steady supply of blended cognac that can rival the bigger Cognac houses, currently holding the largest stock of XO brandies in the Cognac region.

Prince de Didonne VS is made in the Cognac region with grapes that mainly come from Petite Champagne, Fins Bois, and Bons Bois terroirs. Double-distilled in swan-neck stills and aged in Limousin and Troncais oak casks, the expression features cognacs that are 3 to 5 years old.

About Cognac

Cognac is a type of brandy produced in the Cognac region of France.
Because the French take it very seriously, there are numerous rules cognac makers have to follow not to fall “short” into the brandy category.

The white wine from the specific grapes (Ugni blanc) has to be doubly distilled in a copper pot still before being aged for at least two years in oak casks from which the wood can only come from two specific forests in France (Limousin or Tronçais).

Depending on the age, there are three types of cognac, the youngest V.S. (Very Special), V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale), and the X.O. (Extra Old)

It's a mellow and balanced cognac with maple and pecan rolls on the nose. It's silky smooth on the palate with honeysuckle, jasmine, baking spices, caramel, and vanilla. The finish is satisfyingly long with lingering notes.
