Compass Box Whisky Co.'s The Peat Monster Reserve Edition Malt Scotch Whisky was crafted to celebrate the fifth anniversary of The Peat Monster, Compass Box's best-selling whisky. "Five years on, and the world is a much different place," says Glasier. "The Peat Monster Reserve is even peatier, smokier, richer and higher strength than the classic version,"and "it is available only in magnums."

The whisky is made from a vatting of single malt whiskies made across Scotland (a vatting refers to a marriage of exclusively single malt whiskies, whereas a blending refers to a marriage of single malt whiskies blended together with other grain whiskies). The Peat Monster Reserve Edition Malt Scotch Whisky is made from a marriage of two Islay single malt whiskies, together with single malt whiskies distilled in the Highlands and Speyside regions of Scotland (each whisky was matured in first-fill American oak casks, refill American oak casks or new French oak casks).

"The result is an intense and multi-faceted peat character with profound complexity," says Glaser. "Made from just a few humble ingredients — barley dried over peat smoke, water and yeast — you will find few other drinks in the world with such complexity. In this, the whiskymaker's union of earth and water."

The Peat Monster Reserve has a bold, smoky aroma, with hints of iodine and salty tang. Notes of peat dominate the palate, but are subtly balanced by touches of seaweed and caramel, along with a vanilla sweetness. The finish is rich and coating, with touches of peat, cinnamon and apples. The Peat Monster Reserve earned a score of 92 points from Malt Advocate, which called it a "bold whisky packed with Islay character."
