About Booker's Bluegrass Batch Small Batch Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey

Following the end of the American Revolutionary War, Johannes Reginald Beam emigrated from Germany to the United States, and eventually settled in Kentucky County. At the time, Kentucky County was still considered part of Virginia, and was overseen by a military governor named John J. Bowman. After settling in Kentucky, Beam began harvesting corn and set forth a family tradition by distilling the excess grains he harvested into whiskey. Since then, seven generations of the Beam family have been involved in whiskey production for the eponymous company (the company is actually named after James Beam, who rescued it following Prohibition).

The Booker’s brand of bourbon is named in honor of Booker Noe, the grandson of Jim Beam. Made from a mash of primarily corn, the bourbon was initially bottled by Noe to be used as gifts for close friends and family. Today, the bourbon is matured in virgin American oak casks that are situated in the center of a Kentucky rickhouse, where the temperature and humidity are the most favorable for maturing whiskey.

Booker’s “Bluegrass” Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the first batch of Booker’s limited-edition collection to be released in 2016. According to Fred Noe, Jim Beam’s reigning master distiller, this special “Bluegrass” bottling is made up of barrels that were stored in seven different rack houses (61 percent of the barrels were stored in nine-story houses, 34 percent were stored in seven-story houses, and remaining five percent were stored in a five-story rack house). The barrels range in age from six years and 11 months to seven years and 11 months.

Booker’s “Bluegrass” Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has a deep amber color and an aroma of barrel char, citrus, vanilla and mint chocolate. The palate is filled with caramel, cloves, raspberries and a hint of smoke, which leads to an exceptional finish marked by pecans, pie crust and burnt sugar.

Booker's earned the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2006, 2007 and 2009, and earned a score of 90-95 points from Wine Enthusiast. "This is bourbon the way it used to be. The way it was meant to be," says Booker. Pick up a bottle of this special batch today!

About Booker's

Jim Beam's grandson Booker Noe couldn't wait to turn 21 ― not so he could start drinking, but rather distilling. Being 6th generation distiller with Beam blood coursing through his veins, as well as growing up in the heart of Kentucky, it was only natural. He worked for years as a Master Distiller, then started bottling his very own bourbon as gifts for family and friends after retiring. In 1988 he released the first batch of his namesake Booker’s Bourbon to the public, coining the phrase "small batch" along the way. Today Booker's is run by his son Fred and operates under the Jim Beam distillery. "Fred, make sure they don't mess with my Booker's," is what he requested of his son at his retirement.
